God in His Word uses many metaphors for the Church. It is referred to as a family, a body, a building, a flock, a temple, among other things. All of these images convey the church as a unified entity composed of related individual parts. The concept of an isolated Christian is foreign to the Scriptures. Every believer in Christ has been uniquely gifted by God to build up and be a blessing to other believers. “For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another (Rom. 12:4-5).
Because we believe this with all our hearts, we take church membership seriously. As fellow believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we covenant with one another to be true to our Christian calling, to encourage one another daily, and to spur one another on toward love and good works.
